If you are a developer in UK, S.A, U.S Nigeria or any other country and you are still waiting for a local job, I need you to stop and read this.
The internet has made location irrelevant. Right now there are clients in the US, UK, Canada and Europe actively looking for skilled developers to hire remotely. They do not care where you live. They care what you can build.
Today I want to share the 5 platforms I personally use to find remote work as a full stack developer. These are platforms that has been around over the years but many people still looked down on them. Therefore, I'm sharing from my experience.
1. UPWORK
Upwork is the biggest freelance marketplace in the world. You create a profile, set your hourly rate and apply for jobs posted by clients globally. The key to winning on Upwork is a strong profile and a personalised proposal for every job you apply for. Do not use copy and paste proposals. Read the job description carefully and show the client you understand their problem.

2. FIVERR
Fiverr works differently from Upwork. Instead of applying for jobs you create gigs services you offer at a fixed price. Clients search for what they need and hire you directly. The beauty of Fiverr is that once your gig is set up clients can find you 24 hours a day even while you sleep. Start with a clear gig title, professional description and good gig images.

3. PEOPLEPERHOUR
PeoplePerHour is a UK based platform that connects freelancers with clients on a project or hourly basis. It works similarly to Upwork but has a strong European client base. You can either apply for jobs or create fixed price service packages called Hourlies. It is less competitive than Upwork which makes it easier to land your first jobs.

4. HUMAN PAGES
This one is new and very exciting. Human Pages is a platform where AI agents hire humans for real world tasks. Yes you read that right artificial intelligence is now hiring people directly. Tasks include web development, research, graphic designing, data entry, deliveries and more. Payments are made in USDC cryptocurrency with zero platform fees. As AI continues to grow this platform is going to become very important for freelancers.

5. TOPTAL
Toptal is for experienced developers who want to work with top tier clients. The application process is strict only the top 3 percent of applicants are accepted. But if you get in the pay is exceptional and the clients are serious companies. No hard feelings but I recommend building your experience on Upwork and Fiverr first then applying to Toptal when you are confident in your skills.

My honest advice
Do not try to be on every platform at once. Start with Upwork and Fiverr. Get your first 5 reviews. Then expand to the others. Your reputation is everything on these platforms so focus on quality over quantity especially at the beginning.
If you are just starting out today here is your action plan:
Create your Upwork profile
Create one Fiverr gig
